Kota Kinabalu Charity Run

March 26th

I was in Malaysia during the Spring Break and had planned to just have fun with my sister while my mom was at the EARCOS conference with other ICS faculties.
When we arrived at the Magellan Resort, something caught the corner of my eye! i saw a small piece of paper saying March 26, 5km run or 3 km walk for charity 20 ringits(malaysian money)

I asked my sister, would you like to do the 5km charity run? she said sure so we signed up immediately. Payed the 40 ringits and had 3 days to prepare ourselves. At first i thought wow, i wouldnt be able to run this, because this is my first 5km run and i wasnt sure how long it was going to take and how i should paste myself during the race.

So on the first day, i told myself not to eat as much and planned to hit the gym at the resort and do a 3km run as practice for the 26th.
On the 23rd, i rested that night, 24th i did a 4km run to prepare myself while my sister did a 5km and on the 25th, i just rested because the race is in the morning!

Race day, i woke up at 6:30 am and it was raining! I thought to myself, its not going to be a good run, i might slip and fall. 6:45 am, my sister and i walked to the starting point, listened to the instructions and directions of where to run and at 7 am, the whole thing began! i just ran and ran not looking back and i beat my sister! (:
i finished with a time of 25:30 i think and my sister finished around the 30 minute mark.

Well, i learned that i HAD to prepare for a 5km run. I also learned that you can do service anywhere in the world and at ANYTIME! I also learned that just doing something small like paying 40 hk to run 5km for charity can really make a huge impact on those i was helping.

St Barnabas Flag Day

April 9th, 2011 I went to Central in HongKong to help collect money for the St Barnabas Sociey for the homeless people.
At first i thought it would be strange to ask strangers for money and that it was rude because i had always seen people ask me and at times when i was in a rush or when i had no change i would ignore them.
So as Mrs Lee gave us out our little bags and was explaining how to ask people for money, i  became very nervous! i thought that i wouldnt be able to ask anyone because my cantonese isnt that good.

Success! Here is me asking a lady to buy a flag!

All the students who volunteered to help out that day.

I learned that it is actaully pretty easy to ask strangers to buy a flag. I also learned how important it was for us to smile when asking for a flag, sometimes just a smile can brighten up the strangers day. (:
